Benjamin Taubert is a percussionist majoring in music education and is the recipient of this year’s Barbara D. and Erwin C. Mueller Percussion Scholarship.

“I’ve been playing my instrument since around the age of ten years old. My father was a band director which means I always got to watch all the band contests. For whatever reason, I was always drawn to the percussion stuff. I used to bang on pots and pans in my kitchen until my parents enrolled me in private lessons with a local teacher.

“I have so many fond memories of my time here at Ball State! If I had to pick my favorite it would probably be the first time that I ever heard a piece of my own music live. Professor Dembar was kind enough to let the percussion students rehearse and play it at one of our Percussion Ensemble concerts. I am so thankful for my professor and fellow studio members for making that possible!”
