Jay Pettit is a senior from Fort Wayne, IN. Jay is majoring in music education (instrumental/general) and is the recipient of this year’s George Wolfe Saxophone Scholarship. 

 “I have been playing saxophone since 2011. I had relatives that were in band when they were younger and it was something I always wanted to do. I had never tried to play a saxophone (I had tried other instruments at an instrument petting zoo), but I somehow managed to convince my grandparents to invest in a student saxophone for me. I have been in love with the instrument ever since! 

“Before college my anxiety was so bad I could hardly play in front of people. Despite walking into my audition a stuttering, nervous wreck, Dr. Bogert welcomed me into the studio and it has been a great fit. Not to mention the fantastic music education program here at Ball State! I couldn’t see myself anywhere else. 

“My fondest memory at Ball State is probably the joint recital I completed last semester. It was really stressful leading up to it, but honestly it was so fun to actually get to perform. I’m so excited for my next recital!”
