Jacob Fernandez is from Oklahoma City and is in his second year of the Artist Diploma program for bassoon performance.
“I’ve studied bassoon for thirteen years. I decided to play bassoon in seventh grade when I was told to I couldn’t play percussion. I kept playing bassoon because to my teacher at the time, Carl Rath, helped me fall in love with making music. My choice in majoring music was a no brainer out of high school. My fondest memory at Ball State has been the mini “graduation”the bassoon studio put on last Spring. We had Pomp and Circumstance plying over a speaker as Dr. Sweger “hosted” the ceremony. I was so happy to spend that time with my studio laughing and saying good bye. I decided to attend Ball State over other universities for the artist diploma program. It’s been such a great opportunity studying with Dr. Sweger and playing in the Beneficence Woodwind Quintet!”
