Julianna Shamel is a first year masters student in Vocal Performance, from Highland IN.

This past spring, Julianna was supposed to perform the role of Cendrillon in BSOT’s production of Massenet’s Cendrillon. Due to the unforeseen circumstance with COVID-19, the show has been postponed.

 “It is such a beautiful work and I have been very blessed to learn the role with the hopes to perform it in the future.

“I have been studying voice since my senior year of high school. I started my music journey playing the violin when I was 4 years old and going to college for voice wasn’t in my original master plan. Once I got to Ball State, I fell in love with vocal performance and opera and have been doing it ever since! My voice teacher, Beth Truitt, encouraged and inspired me to start opera performance and I am so grateful for her guidance.

“My fondest memory at Ball State so far was performing Don Giovanni with the Ball State Opera Theatre in 2019. It was so much fun and worth every second of work we put into it! Dr. Jon Truitt and Dr. Cara Chowning are joys to work with and the ensemble is full of amazing, hardworking people.”
