Ísis Jarnicki de Carvalho, a doctoral student from Brazil studying voice performance.
“I began studying music when I was 8 years old and never really stopped. I started with the piano, and in my teen years I served as an accompanist for a community choir, helping singers to learn and practice their parts. That was when I fell in love with singing! As one of the graduate assistants for Ball State Opera Theatre, my fondest memories at Ball State have been built in opera rehearsals over the past two and a half years. The whole process of making an opera happen demands a lot from everyone involved. Seeing how much thought and work myself and other students have been putting into it each semester is both heartwarming and gratifying.
“On the upcoming Opera Gala, I will be singing the duet “Viene la sera” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, as well as will participate in the Opera Chorus. We will have great operatic and musical theatre numbers this year at the Gala, from La Cenerentola to Les Misérables. I can’t wait to see them come together!” 📸 @dzellidesign
