Maegan Pollonais is a mezzo-soprano from Trinidad and Tobago. She is a Doctor of Arts in Music candidate with an additional concentration in Educational Psychology and is currently writing her dissertation on a Caribbean art song cycle.

“Ball State has been a dream come true. I’ve had the opportunity to truly develop my craft through the amazing instruction from my voice professor, Dr. Mei Zhong, that afforded me the opportunity to not only win Ball State’s 10th Annual Voice Competition in 2016, but also place 1st in the Great Composer’s International Voice Competition in 2017. I have also been blessed to have performed in 8 operatic roles with the Ball State Opera Theatre, as well as perform the alto solo in J.S. Bach’s Cantata #38 with the Ball State Symphony Orchestra. I was also granted the opportunity to sing for THE George Shirley and Grammy Award-winner Isabel Leonard. What amazing experiences that I will cherish forever! As a graduate student in Dr. Zhong’s voice studio, I also taught bi-weekly master classes for our vocal studio and interned with Dr. Zhong, observing and teaching voice to both voice and non-voice majors alike. With these learning, performing, and teaching opportunities, I feel confident that Ball State University has shaped me into the best musician, performer, educator, and person that I can be!
