As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ball State University Singers and Survivor Voices joined forces to present a benefit concert for Little Red Door of East Central Indiana and Survivor Voices.
Survivor Voices brings together individuals who have or have had cancer to celebrate their survivorship, strength, and hope, and to offer inspiration to other survivors, their caregivers and families, and to us all. The choir was founded by Dr. Michael Williamson, a Muncie oncologist, and his wife, Laura, who dreamed that a group of cancer survivors could make a difference in the lives of others going through similar struggles. Survivor Voices current co-artistic directors are Vicki Jeffers and Molly Flodder.
Little Red Door of East Central Indiana‘s mission is to reduce the financial and emotional burdens of those dealing with a cancer diagnosis, as well as promote cancer prevention, early detection, and wellness to reduce cancer rates and improve cancer survivorship in our region.
“On Wednesday, October 3rd, Ball State University Singers paired up with the Survivor Voices of Muncie to perform a Benefit Concert. This was a great cause, as all funds directly help those battling with cancer, and those who have beaten the battle already. The concert benefitted the Little Red Door Cancer Agency of East Central Indiana, that recognizes that cancer takes an extreme toll on all those who suffer from it and their families. This organization serves those who may lack financial means when cancer takes an extreme toll on them. The Survivor Voices are made up of cancer survivors. This was truly an inspiring evening. I got to hear several testimonies from cancer survivors, and hear how they conquered the battle that is cancer. We came together to perform 2 beautiful songs with the Survivor Voices that sent the message of spreading awareness. Myself, along with the rest of the University Singers are very grateful we could help spread awareness for this great cause, and remind everyone to never give up the fight.”
