This year we have five new professors joining our Ball State faculty!

 

Zoran Jakovcic is the assistant teaching professor of music performance (viola). Mr. Jakovcic graduated from The Juilliard School as a student of Dorothy Delay and served as teaching assistant to Robert Mann of the Juilliard Quartet. A native of Croatia, Mr. Jakovcic made his solo orchestral debut as winner of the National Competition in Zagreb. He has performed in recital and as soloist with orchestras in Europe, Japan, China, and the United States. Mr. Jakovcic was first violinist of the Essex Quartet (1988-98), winner of numerous competitions and awards with residences at Juilliard, Yale, Rutgers, Meadowmount, Banff, and Aspen. Sean Mills is the assistant professor of teaching. Dr. Mills teaches a variety of music history, music theory, conducting, and ensemble courses here at Ball State University. He is a native of Eureka, California and attended the University of Oregon (BM and MM), and the University of Iowa(DMA). Dr. Mills has performed as cellist and conductor in California, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Illinois, Switzerland, France, Germany, and Austria as a member of the Humboldt Symphony, the Humboldt Chamber Players, the Oregon Mozart Players, the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, the Quad City Symphony, the Manzanita Piano Trio, the Oregon Coast Music Festival Orchestra, and other ensembles.

 

Stephen C. Price is the full-time lecturer of teaching (organ) at the School of Music. Dr. Price attended Western Connecticut State University (BM) and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (MM and DMA), and was also a The Fulbright Program grant recipient which allowed him to study organ and receive a diploma at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Toulouse in France. In addition, Dr. Price was formerly the associate director of music and organist at First United Methodist Church (San Diego, CA) and a finalist and prize-winner at several international organ competitions. Stephen Campbell has joined the School of Music faculty as assistant professor of music (trumpet). Dr. Campbell attended Stephen F. Austin State University (BM, MM) and continued post graduate work at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music – CCM (DMA). He is principal trumpet of the Lexington Philharmonic, associate principal trumpet of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and principal trumpet of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Cara Chowning is the new assistant teaching professor (vocal coach and music appreciation). Dr. Chowning attended Northwestern University‘s Bienen School of Music (BM), the Cleveland Institute of Music (MM), and the University of Illinois School of Music (DMA). She has performed extensively throughout the United States, South America, and Europe as duo partner, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist. Dr. Chowning has also prepared numerous complete opera or musical theater productions as a music director and pianist at the professional, young artist, and collegiate levels.
