Student Good News

Allison Akers’ short story, “Fate Inc.,” was accepted into the Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle, and she has the opportunity to present it in Las Vegas!

Melissa Powell, Leah Heim, and Prof. Huff

Melissa Powell (Ph.D. Literature) and Leah Heim (M.A. Literature), along with faculty member Joyce Huff,  presented papers on the panel “Phantoms, Medusas, and False Selves: Abjection in Film and Literature” at the International Gothic Association in Chicago, IL. Melissa’s paper was entitled “The Haunting of Edna Pontellier: Sublime Terror, Abjection, and Regression in Kate Chopin’s The Awakening,” and Leah’s was entitled “Monstrous Jouissance: Abjection and Écriture Féminine in Guillermo del Toro’s Mama.

JJ Gramlich (M.A. Linguistics student) published her first article, “Talking Through: The Detriment of Avoidant Discourse in WC Allyship,” in the writing center studies journal The Peer Review in July 2019. 

Tynan Drake (M.A. Creative Writing & EMDD) was hired by podcasting company Share Your Genius for scriptwriting, social media content management, and audio engineering.
