Dr. Justin Murray joins the Ball State Department of Mathematical Sciences as an Assistant Teaching Professor.
What is your journey to Ball State?
I completed my PhD in mathematics at Louisiana State University in 2024. Before that I completed a master’s program at Ball State in 2019. My bachelor’s degree was obtained in 2017 at Indiana University Kokomo.
What are your research and teaching interests?
My broad research interests include low-dimensional topology, contact geometry, and knot theory. More specifically, I investigate Legendrian submanifolds in contact 3- and 5-manifolds and fillings of these submanifolds.
What are some of your goals for your first year here?
I love teaching and seeing the growth in my students. I will be teaching Math 125 in my first semester back here and look forward to helping my students feel more comfortable around math.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy golfing, playing games (board games, card games, and video games), and spending time with friends and family.
