This spring semester, IT welcomed Annie Ashbrook with open arms. She will be taking on the new position of Training Coordinator at the Digital Corps, facilitating all Digital Corps training to ensure the team can create the best work possible.

Ashbrook received her bachelor’s degree from Ball State in Organizational Communications Studies and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Communication Studies.

“I taught 7th-12th grade and really enjoyed teaching students, especially when involving technology,” Ashbrook said. “With my experience in the classroom combined with my love for technology, this position came to me, and I thought [it was] a great combination of everything that I really love to do and what I really love to learn about.”

The new training coordinator is vocal about her love for BSU, and it is evident that she is passionate about her environment and line of work. She also spends ample time on her personal hobbies, including reading, crafting and spending time outside.

During the hiring process, select students of the Digital Corps had the chance to be on the Training Coordinator search committee. These three students, Taylor Staples, Connor Vessley and Hailey Vrolyk had the chance to search for applicants and help narrow down the decision from a student’s perspective.

“I was excited for the opportunity to be behind the scenes, it was kind of like I was behind a cool, secret club,” Staples said. “I’m so excited for Annie to take charge in her position.”

Incorporating these students helped pave the way for a safe, comfortable environment for everyone at the Digital Corps. Staples, Vessley and Vrolyk worked on sifting through resumes, interviewing applicants and having real conversations with each of the final contenders to understand how they may fit into the office culture.

The search committee enjoyed Ashbrook’s presence and believed that she would fit well with the other students and staff of the Digital Corps.

“She was really confident… super bubbly and friendly, and seemed super excited about the possibilities of the job and what she could bring to the table,” Vrolyk said.
