Perhaps you’re an English major, or you might just be interested in hearing somebody who has your dream job talk about their journey. You’ve seen the flyers on campus, you’ve read the emails, and now you’re very interested in attending your first-ever Stars to Steer By event. Here are six tips for getting the most out of your Stars to Steer By experience!

1. Bring Your Student ID

Stars to Steer By is a recognized event with Ball State University, so you’ll have to swipe your badge (which could mean extra credit for some classes!).

2. Bring a Notebook with You

Stars speakers are more than happy to answer any questions you may have, so take advantage of this opportunity! Make sure you bring a notebook to write down any questions you may form during each Star’s presentation so you can remember them during the Q/A portion of the event.

3. Check out the blog post for each star

In the weeks leading up to Stars to Steer By events, our blog features each presenter in our interview series, showcasing each Star’s post-collegiate career! Make sure to check out the blog posts for  Jessica Beinart, Whittley Pike, and Sean Southern and connect with them (many alums are more than willing to connect on LinkedIn and Twitter, so take advantage of and forge a new connection!)

4. Come Hungry

Did we say there will be FREE pizza and coffee? Come with an appetite not only for knowledge but also for the greasy goodness of hot slice.

5. Invite your Friends

What’s a good way to show your friends that you care about them? Invite them to an event that might change their lives and give them direction for their future! Not only will you have a travel buddy, but you will also be able to share this incredible opportunity with someone who is very important to you.

6. Follow @BSUEnglish and use the hashtag #bsuenglish

Sure, this reads like a shameless social media plug, but we’re serious. Our hashtag,#bsuenglish, is bursting with helpful tools for the English major but also for those interested in fields in which the knowledge of storytelling is vital. Beyond that, our Twitter has fun contests throughout the semester that you can participate in.

Now that you’ve got the tools to make the most out of your Stars to Steer By experience, we hope to see you on February 13th at 5:00pm in NQ 160.
