Mrs. Bethany Clegg joins the Ball State Department of Psychological Science as an Assistant Lecturer of Psychological Science.
What is your journey to Ball State?
I attended Indiana Wesleyan University as an undergraduate and double majored in Physical Education and Community Health and Wellness. I earned my Master’s degree from Ball State in Educational Psychology.
I started working in the Muncie Community in 2006 and would commute from Hamilton County. Ten years ago, my family decided to make Muncie our home.
I am new to my role in the Psychology Science Department. My first ten years at the university, I worked in the Teacher’s College at the Laboratory School on campus and as an adjunct instructor in the Kinesiology department. I have offered dual-credit Psychology classes for the last two years.
What initially drew you to your field of study?
I am interested in the physical and psychological benefits of play in children’s development. I am interested in research involving the benefits of nature to our physical and psychological health.
I have been interested in my physical and physical connections since childhood. I started my career teaching in K-12 education for twenty years. I am licensed to teach dual credit psychology, physical education, health, elementary STEM, and gifted & talented. I first fell in love with teaching, then started my passion for the field of psychology later in my career.
What are some of your hobbies/non-academic interests?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two kids. Most of my nights and weekends involve getting everyone to and from activities. When I get the chance, I love to spend time outdoors or diving into an enjoyable book.
