Kara Landis Associate Clinical Lecturer of Speech Pathology and Audiology, is one among many of our team of experts in clinical practice across a multitude of disciplines. She was selected to serve as our newest Faculty Fellow. She will be working on the new L.A.U.N.C.H. (Learning, Advancement, and Understanding for Navigating Career Health) program. This faculty leadership role supports the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the L.A.U.N.C.H. program. We are looking forward to working with Kara in this role.
Landis has been teaching at Ball State for 12 years, taking a position on the Speech Pathology and Audiology team in 2014.  However, she was a Cardinal long before she joined the College of Health team, having completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Ball State.
Following the completion of her studies, Landis served in several environments as a nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist. She spent 14 years of clinical practice working in hospitals, outpatient clinics, school systems, and as a private practice clinician.
Throughout the course of her career, Landis found a passion for education, something that she says is an integral aspect of her work.

“I’ve always been educating; part of our job in speech language pathology is we are educating people on all things speech and language,” Landis said. “So that has always been something that I’ve enjoyed doing, or counseling, in our scope.” Eventually, she began taking on Ball State students as a clinical supervisor for their off-campus practicum hours. It was through this experience that Landis discovered that she enjoyed working with students, and found a love for clinical supervision.
“I love clinic, I really do,” Landis said “I am a clinician, so, you know, the only reason I work at Ball State is because I am a Speech Language Pathologist, but I have really come to love the classroom.” Now, she serves as a member of the clinical faculty in the Interprofessional Community Clinic, supervising graduate clinicians who are working to complete their competency hours. Landis also serves as a lecturer for undergraduate students, with a six-credit-hour course load. In addition to her work as a clinical supervisor and professor, she has recently had the opportunity to help rewrite the undergraduate course she teaches, The Survey of Speech Pathology and Audiology. The new course, called Introduction to Communication Sciences and Disorders, will be available to students outside of the College of Health, but will be required for those majoring in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Landis has helped shape the next generation of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, and will continue to impact students as she continues to offer her expertise to Ball State students.
