New Quizzes

• New Quizzes as the Default Quiz Option: The ability to create new Classic Quizzes was disabled from our Canvas environment on August 3rd. This does not affect any quizzes currently in your courses, as Classic Quizzes will continue to work as they always have. Moving forward, however, all newly created quizzes must use New Quizzes.  
• Improved Accommodation (Moderate) Tab: The Accommodation (Moderate) tab has been redesigned to allow instructors to apply time extensions and reopen a student’s quiz attempt in a single action. The new pop-up tab displays a real-time breakdown of total allowed time (base quiz time + course accommodations + quiz adjustments) before saving, helping to reduce errors. 
• Font Settings: An “Edit default font” option in New Quizzes’ settings now allows instructors to choose a default font and text size that automatically applies across all Rich Content Editors within that quiz. 

SpeedGrader and Assessment Enhancements 

• Current Student Indicator: SpeedGrader’s student selection drop-down menu now clearly highlights which student submission is currently loaded on screen, helping prevent navigation mistakes. 
• DocViewer Page Rotation: Instructors can now rotate misaligned or sideways student submission pages directly inside SpeedGrader before drawing annotations. Once annotations are placed, page orientation locks to preserve comment placement. 
• Enhanced Rubrics Interface: Canvas continues to roll out its updated Rubrics interface, giving the feature a refreshed look and smoother scoring workflow inside SpeedGrader. 

Interface and Course Settings 

• Course Settings Refresh: The Course Settings page was visually refreshed. All functionality and settings remain the same, but the new layout offers a cleaner look. 
• Inbox Translation Feedback: When using Canvas translation options on messages, instructors and students can provide quick thumbs-up/thumbs-down ratings to help improve translation quality. 

Security

• Secure Email Attachment Links: If an email is received about a Canvas Inbox conversation that includes a file attachment, clicking the file link now requires logging into Canvas to access the file. 
• Syllabus File Link Security: File links placed in a course Syllabus now use HTML-linked authentication rather than open file verifiers. This prevents external users from accessing unshared course files if a syllabus is made publicly visible.
