Addie Rosebrock is settling into her first semester at Ball State and beginning her journey toward a career in education. A graduate of Greenwood Community High School in Greenwood, Indiana, Addie is pursuing dual majors in Elementary Education and Special Education.
Addie is the next student featured in a Teachers College series highlighting Ball State recipients of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education awards the scholarship to high-achieving students who plan to pursue careers in education. Recipients can receive up to $10,000 each year for four academic years.
A Family Tradition
Addie has wanted to become a teacher since before she started kindergarten. With both her dad and grandmother working as teachers, she grew up with educators close to home and always hoped to follow their example.
Now, Addie is beginning that journey for herself at Ball State. She chose the University because of its strong teachers program and the welcoming staff she encountered during her college search.
“I have always wanted to be just like them,” Addie said of her dad and grandmother.
Helping Students Get a Strong Start
Addie hopes to work with elementary students after graduation. She wants to help young learners build a strong foundation and get started on the right track for their future in school.
Her dual focus in elementary and special education will prepare her to support students with a range of learning needs. As she begins her degree-focused classes, Addie is excited to gain the knowledge and skills she will need for her future classroom.
She also hopes to build strong connections throughout her college experience. Getting to know her peers and professors is one of the goals she has set for herself as she begins her Ball State journey.
A Leader On and Off the Court
Addie brings leadership experience to campus from her years at Greenwood Community High School. She served as captain of the varsity volleyball team for two years, worked as a page editor for the newspaper staff, and participated in the PEER program throughout her school district.
Outside the classroom, Addie enjoys playing volleyball, working out, reading, eating ice cream, and spending time with friends.
She also has a full house waiting for her when she heads home: two dogs and one cat.
A Scholarship That Opens Opportunities
Receiving the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship gives Addie the freedom to focus on her college experience and take advantage of opportunities beyond the classroom.
“This scholarship means that I can fully involve myself in all the extra opportunities provided to help enhance my experience without any worry of my financial situation,” Addie said.
With financial concerns eased, Addie can focus on building connections, exploring opportunities, and preparing for her future career.
Addie’s path to education began long before she arrived at Ball State. Now, she is carrying on a family tradition while creating her own path as a future educator.
