Finding Joy in the Classroom
For Bailee Marshall, the highlight of her high school days often came when she stepped into her cadet teaching classrooms. A Madison, Indiana native, Bailee is heading to Ball State University to major in Elementary Education, fueled by her love of working with kids and the joy of helping them learn.
“I loved having the opportunity to help them with different assignments and getting to know the kids,” she says. “It quickly became my favorite part of the day.”
Bailee is a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, a competitive, renewable award that provides up to $10,000 annually for four years to high-achieving students who commit to teaching in Indiana for five years after graduation.
From the Pool to the Podium
Throughout high school, Bailee stayed active both in and out of the classroom. She was a member of the swim team during her freshman and sophomore years, joined Student Council her junior year, and became a member of National Honor Society as a senior.
Her hands-on experience as a cadet teacher at Madison Junior High School and Lydia Middleton Elementary reinforced her passion for teaching. Outside of school, she volunteered at the Ohio Theatre and with the OVO Head Start Administration Building and preschool.
Why Ball State? Love at First Visit
Before her senior year, Bailee toured Ball State’s Teachers College and knew instantly she had found the right fit.
“I immediately fell in love with the campus and program,” she shares. “Their Teachers College is amazing.”
She’s most excited to continue gaining classroom experience, building on what she learned through cadet teaching in high school.
Swimming, Stories, and Self-Care
When she needs to unwind, Bailee turns to her favorite pastimes: reading and swimming.
“Reading helps me focus on something other than stress while transporting me to a different place,” she says. “Swimming allows me to calm myself down and take a break when I’m feeling overwhelmed.”
A Worldly Perspective
Bailee also values learning beyond the classroom walls. Last year, she traveled to Greece and Italy with her school, gaining firsthand experience with different cultures and making unforgettable memories with family and friends.
Ready to Teach, Ready to Inspire
With her heart for students and her eagerness to keep growing as an educator, Bailee is ready to make an impact in Indiana classrooms.
