Overview

The School of Journalism and Strategic Communication (“SJSC”) has partnered with Fiftyfaces Podcast series to create a design contest. The contest challenges students to create a three-month social media campaign focused on diversity and inclusion. The winner of the contest will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

How to Enter

The contest consists of three rounds:

  • Round 1 – Social media campaign proposals – due 11/11/22
    • Students should create a three-month social media campaign proposal that explains a theme, proposed distribution channels and content for each channel, a general timeline and related content, a mood board and any other relevant information.
    • All proposals be submitted to Leo Caldwell via email (nncaldwell@bsu.edu) by 11/11/22 and presented live during the November VIS (MDD student organization) meeting to three faculty judges.
    • The faculty judges will pick the top three proposals during the meeting and identify a faculty mentor for each selected project.
  • Round 2 – Social media campaign creation – due 1/15/23
    • The top three student winners will work with a faculty mentor to create a robust three-month social media campaign that includes a social media calendar and assets for social media posts.
    • Students’ work will be submitted to Aofinn Devitt (community partner) for review and a final decision on the contest winner.
  • Round 3 – Contest winner – announced 2/15/23
    • The contest winner will be announced in February and will receive $1,000.
    • The campaign will be distributed across Fiftyfaces social media channels.

Prizes

The $1,000 prize will be awarded directly to the student winner. It is non-transferable. Acceptance of the prize grants SJSC permission to use the winner’s entry, name, and likeness for advertising, promotion, and trade without further compensation or remuneration unless prohibited by law.

All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of winner.  Winner will be issued an IRS Form 1099 for the value of the prize and is advised to seek independent counsel regarding the tax implications of his/her prize winnings.

Selection and Notification of the Winner

Top three finalists will be selected by three faculty judges. The winner of the contest will be selected by sponsor.

Terms & Conditions

By submitting a contest submission, each entrant represents and warrants that it is an original submission created by the entrant, and entrant grants Ball State University, the Fiftyfaces Podcast Series and their designees the perpetual, unlimited, exclusive, transferable, worldwide and irrevocable right to modify, create derivative works of, edit, post, publish and/or otherwise use the entrant’s submission and all elements embodied therein, including any names and likenesses, in any manner and in any and all media now known or hereafter developed, without further compensation, notification, or permission.  The entrant represents and warrants that the submission is entrant’s own work and has not been submitted or licensed to any other third party, including any other contest.  Entrant further represents and warrants that all materials included in the submission were owned exclusively by the entrant at the time of submission, are nonconfidential, were legally created, and are not subject to any rights or claims of ownership or license by any third parties. All materials submitted by contest entrants shall become the property of the Ball State University and will not be returned to entrants.

 

By submitting a contest submission, entrant hereby grants permission for the submission to be posted on Ball State University and Fiftyfaces Podcast Series websites and be otherwise used by Ball State University and Fiftyfaces Podcast Series as they deem appropriate in their sole discretion. Ball State University and Fiftyfaces Podcast Series do not guarantee the posting of any contest submission and may take down any submission for any reason at any time.  An entrant agrees that he/she will not use the contest submission for any purpose, including, without limitation, posting the submission to any other website or online social networks.

 

Release & Limitations of Liability

 By entering the contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless Ball State University, its agents, employees, officers, and directors from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of entrant’s participation in the contest, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized intervention in the contest; (b) typographical or other error in the printing, offering, or the announcement of any prize; (c) illegible, incomplete, lost, late, damaged, delayed, or mutilated entries, or any entries not received by the entry deadline; (d) errors in the administration of the contest or the processing of entries; and/or (e) any other claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the contest or winner’s use or misuse of any prize. Entrant waives the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages. If, for any reason, an entrant’s contest submission is confirmed to have been erroneously lost, or otherwise destroyed, entrant’s sole remedy is another contest entry, if possible. Ball State University reserves the right to cancel or modify the contest if fraud, misconduct, or technical failures destroy the integrity of the contest or if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper administration of the contest as determined by Ball State University in its sole discretion.

 

Disputes

Entrant agrees that: (a) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this contest or any prizes awarded shall be resolved individually, without resorting to any form of class action, and exclusively in the state courts located in Delaware County, Indiana; and (b) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred by entrant resulting directly from entering the contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees or any other losses, costs, or damages.  All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these contest rules or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Ball State University in connection with the contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Indiana without  giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of Indiana or any other jurisdiction),which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Indiana.
