This is not an all-inclusive list. Information will be emailed to participates closer to the event date.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I ARRIVE?

Students arrive on campus June 10. After checking into the residence hall, students will meet their instructors and familiarize themselves with university and academy rules.

If your student knows in advance they absolutely have to arrive late or leave early, you need to include a signed note with their registration form that includes a specific time of arrival or departure.

If your student unexpectedly arrives late or leaves early, let us know by calling the Journalism Workshops office at 765-285-8900. You and your student will need to check-in on the second floor of the Art and Journalism Building, room 285.

Commuter students will be required to sign in and out at the beginning and end of each day.

WHERE WILL MY STUDENT BE STAYING?

Students will stay in one of Ball State’s air-conditioned residence halls. In 2017, students lived in the newly renovated Botsford-Swinford Complex, but housing is subject to change. Students will need to bring their own bedding (twin size), pillows and towels.

Meal cards are available for purchase in $70 and $35 amounts. These are in addition to the registration fee and can be bought at check-in or added to the registration form.

We suggest that students bring cash or a credit/debit card, as they work in the dining hall and at private businesses.

WHERE WILL MY STUDENT EAT?

Most meals will be eaten at the Noyer Complex, a dining facility located on campus.

Students will also have the opportunity to go in groups to restaurants located in the Village, a collection of businesses just a 5-minute walk from the Art and Journalism Building.

Students can expect to spend about $2-$4 for breakfast,  $6-$8 for lunch and $6-$8 for dinner.

For students with food allergies, special arrangements can be made with the Noyer chef for no additional fee. Please let us know in advance if your student needs a special meal plan, or check out BSU’s everyday Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and Nut-Free options on NetNutrition, Ball State’s daily menu service.

Recreation Passes:

We do not recommend purchasing a recreation pass, as Summer Media Academy is packed full of activities, but if students must continue training for school athletics purposes, students may purchase a recreation pass for the Jo Ann Gora Recreation Center. They are $30 per person for a seven-day period.

This pass enables guests to utilize our two fitness centers, two swimming pools, indoor jogging tracks, and two open multi-purpose gymnasiums during regularly scheduled recreation times. To get a recreation pass, please call the Recreation Office at 765-285-1753.

How do I get there?

Drop Off

Parents may drop their student off during check-in and pick them up at check-out at the residence hall.

Airport/Megabus Shuttle

Students can fly into Indianapolis International Airport or take the Megabus into Indianapolis. The Workshops office will provide a shuttle to and from campus.

Please schedule flights to arrive around 5 p.m. on June 9.

The shuttle fee is $45 round-trip per student. Arriving the day before camp will cost the student $40 extra. The travel form can be found on the registration page.

Student Drivers

We do not encourage student driving, but if students must drive, a parking pass needs to be purchased. A four-day Parking Pass is $20 and can be added to your registration form or purchased during check-in. Students will not be able to use their cars after arriving and parking.

Please contact our office if you plan on driving.
