The DOMA Insider has been providing the community with behind-the-scenes stories and reviews of events in the David Owsley Museum of Art for two years. Content for the DOMA Insider is written by student interns and education assistants, with the goal of providing the community with an insider’s perspective of the museum. We hope the blog posts allow you to experience the museum in a new way and allow you to keep in touch with all that is happening at the museum. This semester there are two new writers for the DOMA Insider blog, interns James Schwab and Alyson Walbridge, as well as two returning writers, Regan Kelly and Lauren Sherwood. Below are a few words from the DOMA Insider writers.
Hello readers! My name is James Schwab and I am a curatorial intern here at the David Owsley Museum of Art. Although I’m a new addition to the team, I’m looking forward to working with the wide variety of resources that the museum helps expose students to. Outside of my time spent at the museum, I’m busy working on my undergraduate thesis. Majoring in Art with a specialization in Drawing and a minor in Art History, fine art practices are central to my daily experience. I love exploring the endless possibilities of creative expression, and dabbling in several different mediums, although drawing will always be my first true love! After graduation, I hope to continue to find ways to stay active within the world of fine art, through working with museums or galleries and continuing my own personal artistic explorations.
Hi there, my name is Alyson Walbridge and I am the education intern here at the David Owsley Museum of Art. I am a senior, double majoring in History and Art History. During my last semester as an undergraduate student, I am taking a few classes, working on writing two theses, and tackling the enjoyable tasks of creating educational resources for the museum and its visitors. For the past year and a half, I have had the pleasure of visiting the museum often as well as being a docent. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge of art and museums with others, and I look forward to the experiences this semester will bring!
My name is Lauren Sherwood and I am excited to continue writing for the DOMA Insider this semester. I am an interpretive planning assistant at the David Owsley Museum of Art where I draft, format, and produce labels for the galleries, including new exhibitions. I also help with materials for education in the museum. The past three years I have enjoyed being a part of the museum as a visitor, volunteer docent, and this year as an assistant. This is my second to last semester before earning my BFA with a concentration in Ceramics. I plan to work as a studio ceramic artist, but continue to develop skills in other media and allow myself to explore the creative and fine arts fields. There are many exciting events happening at the museum this semester that I am eager to share with you on the DOMA Insider blog.
My name is Regan Kelly and I am the Education Assistant this year at DOMA. I am a junior Art History major and Classical Cultures minor, graduating in the fall of this year. From August to December 2013, I wrote for this blog as an intern so I am happy to be back. I spent the interim time as a guard and volunteer docent at the museum, which I still do when I can. I spend, and have spent over the last year and a half, much of my time at the museum and plan to use the experience I learn here in a career in museums down the road.
While providing weekly posts about events that happened in the museum, we will also begin a new monthly post that will tell you what to look forward to in the museum during each month. We are all looking forward to sharing our thoughts on events in the museum on the DOMA Insider blog! Be sure to check back weekly for our latest posts in order to keep up with all that is happening in the David Owsley Museum of Art.
