Each year International Services in the Rinker Center for International Programs holds a photo contest for international students, and this past year CAP’s Anas Almassrahy won in the “Best Indiana Experience” category for this photo from Summit Lake State Park.

Almassrahy holds a bachelor’s degree in urban planning and development from Ball State and is finishing his master’s degree, also in urban planning, this semester. The department frequently turns to him for help photographing events, so no one was surprised when he took first place in the competition.

The award-winning photo was taken during the summer of 2018 on the northern shores of Big Island, one of two islands in the lake, where Almassrahy was kayaking with friends.

Says Almassrahy, “I enjoy spending afternoons and evenings by the water, and Summit Lake is the place to be. I enjoy the beautiful Indiana sunset there. That specific photo was taken a couple of hours before sunset.”
