Inspiring Young Minds Close to Home

Kaelynn Newsome has always been drawn to the curiosity, energy, and imagination of children. That passion has shaped her path, and this fall, she’ll begin her journey toward becoming an elementary teacher at Ball State University, right in her hometown of Muncie.

“I want to become an educator because I have a passion for working with children,” Kaelynn says. “Their curiosity and enthusiasm while learning is so inspiring, and I want to be the one to help them keep it.”

Kaelynn is a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, a prestigious, renewable award that provides up to $10,000 per year for four years to high-achieving Indiana students who commit to teaching in the state for five years after graduation.

Leading with Spirit and Song

Kaelynn brings a strong record of leadership, creativity, and commitment to her studies and extracurriculars. She was in choir for 10 years, serving as vice president of her advanced choir, and spent all four years of high school as a cheerleader. She also maintained a 4.0 GPA and was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Her years of performance and peer leadership have helped her develop the confidence and communication skills she’ll carry with her into the classroom.

Choosing Ball State to Make a Local Impact

Staying close to home was a meaningful choice for Kaelynn.

“Ball State is in my hometown and provides me the opportunity to make a difference with the younger generations in my community,” she shares.

She’s especially excited to dive into classes that align with her passions and explore her future career in depth. “I’m looking forward to learning about things that I’m passionate about,” she says.

Music, Emotion, and Motivation

When she needs to relax or reflect, Kaelynn turns to music.

“I love listening to music that relates to whatever I’m thinking or feeling,” she says. “It just helps me relax and feel good.” And as a fun fact? “I love to sing!”

Rooted in Community, Ready to Teach

With a strong sense of purpose and a passion for nurturing young learners, Kaelynn is ready to make a meaningful impact in Muncie and beyond.

Welcome to Ball State, Kaelynn!
