Overview

The Ball State University Teachers College is holding a t-shirt design contest for eligible participants in order to commemorate the total solar eclipse that will pass over Muncie, Indiana on April 8, 2024. The winner of the contest will receive a $100  Tango Gift Card.

Eligible Participants

The following students are eligible to participate in the contest:

  • Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a Teachers College major or minor;
  • Graduate students currently enrolled in a Teachers College program; and
  • Students currently enrolled at the Indiana Academy.

Guidelines for Design

  • Designs must include the following minimum requirements:
    1. the date of the eclipse;
    2. a reference to the total eclipse; and
    3. a reference to the Teachers College.
  • Designs cannot use any Ball State University institutional or Athletics cardinal logo or mark.
  • Designs will only be accepted electronically at the TC Eclipse T-Shirt Design Contest Entry Form website.
  • Designs must not include explicit, derogatory, or offensive language or imagery, as determined by the Teachers College and University Marketing and Communications in their sole discretion.
  • Designs that do not meet the above guidelines will not be eligible for acceptance into the contest.

How to Enter

  • Contest entry period begins February 12, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. EST and ends on February 22, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. EST.
  • Contest entrants must submit their design as a .jpg or .pdf.
  • To enter a design, fill out the entry form. 

Judging and Selection of Contest Winner

  • Judging will take place beginning February 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. through March 1, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
  • The winner will be announced on Monday, March 11, 2024.
  • No challenge to the results of the Contest and/or selection of the winner will be considered.  Results are final.

Prizes

The $100 Tango Gift Card will be awarded directly to the contest winner.

The winner will have their design printed on t-shirts to be distributed by Teachers College on the day of the eclipse. Acceptance of the prize grants Teachers College and Ball State University permission to use the winner’s entry, design, name, and likeness for advertising, promotion, and trade without further compensation or remuneration.

All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of winner. Winner is advised to seek independent counsel regarding the tax implications of his/her prize winnings.

Submission Rules

One design submission per student. No team submissions.

Notification to Winner

The winner will be notified on or before Monday, March 11, 2024.

Contest Terms & Conditions

By submitting a contest submission, each entrant represents and warrants that it is an original submission created by the entrant, and entrant grants Ball State University and its designees the perpetual, unlimited, exclusive, transferable, worldwide, and irrevocable right to modify, create derivative works of, edit, post, publish and/or otherwise use the entrant’s submission and all elements embodied therein, including any names and likenesses, in any manner and in any and all media now known or hereafter developed, without further compensation, notification, or permission. The entrant represents and warrants that the submission is entrant’s own work and has not been submitted or licensed to any other third party, including any other contest. Entrant further represents and warrants that all materials included in the submission were owned exclusively by the entrant at the time of submission, are nonconfidential, were legally created, and are not subject to any rights or claims of ownership or license by any third parties. Entrant shall defend, indemnify, and hold Ball State University harmless from and against any and all claims, suits, demands, causes of action, losses, costs, damages, awards, penalties, or liabilities incurred, including reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs, which arise from any claim by any third party of an alleged infringement of copyright, patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, or any other intellectual property right arising out of the use of entrant’s submission, entrant’s design, or any other entrant materials. All entries submitted by contest entrants shall become the property of Ball State University and will not be returned to entrants.

By submitting a contest submission, entrant hereby grants permission for the design and all other elements of the submission to be posted on Ball State University websites and be otherwise used by Ball State University as it deems appropriate in its sole discretion.

RELEASE AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY:

By entering the contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless Ball State University, its agents, employees, officers, and directors from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of entrant’s participation in the contest, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized intervention in the contest; (b) typographical or other error in the printing, offering, or the announcement of any prize; (c) illegible, incomplete, lost, late, damaged, delayed, or mutilated entries, or any entries not received by the entry deadline; (d) errors in the administration of the contest or the processing of entries; and/or (e) any other claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the contest or the winner’s use or misuse of any prize. Entrant waives the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, direct, indirect, punitive, special, or consequential damages. If, for any reason, an entrant’s contest submission is confirmed to have been erroneously lost, or otherwise destroyed, entrant’s sole remedy is another contest entry, if possible. Ball State University reserves the right to cancel or modify the contest if fraud, misconduct, or technical failures destroy the integrity of the contest, or if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper administration of the contest as determined by Ball State in its sole discretion.

DISPUTES:  Entrant agrees that: (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this contest or any prizes awarded shall be resolved individually, without resorting to any form of class action, and resolved exclusively in the state courts located in Delaware County, Indiana; and (b) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred by entrant resulting directly from entering the contest, but in no event shall entrant be entitled to attorney fees or any other losses, costs, expenses, or damages. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these contest rules or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Ball State University in connection with the contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Indiana without  giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Indiana.
