Several members of the Information Technology team recently joined other Ball State employees to volunteer and raise funds for the annual “Women Build” project for The Greater Muncie Indiana Habitat for Humanity. Kortnie Huffman from ITS, and Jenn Eber and Marchal Hudson from UTS joined five other Ball State volunteers of Cardinal Red Team 2 on Saturday, October 9, to work on the Habitat house build located at 713 E. Willard St. in Muncie. The BSU Women Build teams were organized by Suzie Jones, Project Coordinator, Office of Community Engagement.
Marchal Hudson described the team’s efforts for the Women Build.
“Our job for the day was building frames – hammers and nails from 9am – 3pm! It was work, but very rewarding team work and an opportunity to connect with other BSU employees and volunteers to do our part! We represented BSU, IT, and supported the Women Build for The Greater Muncie Indiana Habitat for Humanity.”
Normally, volunteers who come out to build a house may be unrelated to the sponsor who is funding the house. However, the Women Build is a special situation. In the case of Women Build, the women who volunteer their time, energy, and talents also provide half the sponsorship for the house. Each woman who participates in the build raises at least $250 to help fund the house. Working together to collect these smaller amounts, the women who volunteer are able to sponsor a portion of the house themselves! Ball State’s Cardinal Red Team 2 raised a total of $1090 for Muncie Habitat and another Ball State team (Cardinal Red Team 1) raised $1000 the weekend before.

Thanks to Marchal, Kortnie, and Jenn for representing Information Technology in this worthy effort!
