Information Technology has recently added the ability to create WebEx Training meetings in addition to regular WebEx meetings. WebEx Training meetings are especially useful for faculty to create online classrooms, as they include additional tools such as polling, hand raising, and breakout sessions.
Most WebEx features exist across the entire suite of tools, however, there are a few key features that may make a specific WebEx tool be more useful in specific situation.
If you want to… | Then use… |
---|---|
Host impromptu, scheduled, or 1 on 1 meetings such as office hours | My Personal Room (part of WebEx Meetings) |
Schedule a single or regularly occurring meeting with hosting options (me as the host, others as host, multiple hosts) | WebEx Meetings |
Run an online class with features such as polling, raise hands, or break out rooms | WebEx Training |
Host up to 3 concurrent audio only conference calls where I have keypad commands to manage participants | Personal Conferencing Numbers |
Breakout Sessions
WebEx Training meetings also include the ability to break the larger meeting into smaller, focused groups as breakout sessions. These sessions are private and are separated from the main session but the participants remain linked to the larger meeting. This feature can be especially useful in a classroom setting, where smaller groups of students can work together during class, then continue back with the entire group afterward, so there’s no need to set up separate WebEx meetings for these smaller groups.
