In an era where cyber threats are becoming more common, Ball State has taken a significant step forward in protecting its students and employees from email-based scams and malicious attacks. The implementation of Proofpoint is a crucial part of this initiative.
Proofpoint inspects all incoming emails, filtering out malicious and unwanted content. By preventing these emails from reaching inboxes, the platform reduces the likelihood of users engaging with potentially harmful content. Users can review and manage their quarantined emails through the email quarantine portal at https://mailfilter.bsu.edu.
“The decision to implement Proofpoint stemmed from a growing need to enhance cybersecurity measures within the university,” Executive Director of Information Security and CISO, Toby Coffman said. “In recent years, both students and employees have fallen victim to fraudulent schemes, including fake job scams that have cost students thousands of dollars and gift card scams targeting employees. The introduction of Proofpoint will help mitigate these risks by providing a robust layer of protection against phishing, malware, and unwanted emails.”
Since the rollout of Proofpoint, the university has seen remarkable improvements in email security:
- 18% Increase in Malicious Emails Blocked – This translates to approximately 10,000 harmful emails prevented from reaching users within a single week.
- 2,000% Increase in Malware-Related Email Blocks – A significant leap in identifying and stopping malware threats before they infiltrate the system.
- Over 550,000 Additional Emails Blocked Weekly – Compared to the previous email security solution, Proofpoint has blocked an additional 550,000 emails over a seven-day period, equating to roughly 20 fewer unwanted emails per week for active users.
The rollout of Proofpoint highlights Ball State’s commitment to cybersecurity. By addressing potential threats and implementing advanced email filtering, the university is fostering a safer digital environment for both students and employees!
