Our newest addition to the IT staff is no stranger to the campus. Drew Heiss received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Ball State in 2024 and worked on the Development Team at the Digital Corps. After gaining real-world developer experience, Heiss found his way back to the University and now serves as a Developer at The Digital Corps.

His journey at the Corps began during his time as an undergraduate student. He worked at the Corps for three years, contributing to many impactful projects.

“When I was at the Corps I did a whole lot of things,” Heiss explained. “I did a couple cool MUTT board projects and did a lot of work on our Corps API last year.”

Since graduating in May, Heiss spent the past 6 months working for Accutech in Muncie. At Accutech, he learned how to work better in a development team. He learned valuable tools including Jira, and Agile workflows.

“These helped me stay organized and manage my tasks. It gave me the opportunity to have hands on experience with participating in sprint planning, daily stand ups, and retrospectives,” Heiss explained. “Overall, I feel more confident working in a team setting and contributing to a software development project.”

Heiss has a solid foundation in software development, with four years of experience in web development. This gives him the technical skills needed to contribute to a wide range of projects. He also has a strong understanding of the behind-the-scenes workings of AI tools and how to implement them at Ball State.
