Have you noticed a change in your Wi-Fi connection recently?

IT started deploying Wi-Fi 6e access points across campus this fall. The capabilities of Wi-Fi 6e include faster speeds and exceptional reliability when connecting to the Wi-Fi network. Users on the Wi-Fi 6e access points can download or upload at speeds exceeding 1 gigabit per second.

“These 1200 access points will go to a mix of administrative, academic, and residence hall locations,” Chris Cahoe, Director of Unified Communications, said. “Our goal is to have all of the campus updated to Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6e by August 2025.”

The only way you will notice the change in Wi-Fi is if your laptop or Apple iPhone was released in 2023. Most models released during 2023 should have Wi-Fi 6e capabilities that devices released in previous years don’t possess.

“Ball State is an early adopter [of Wi-Fi 6e], and [we] will get most of our campus to Wi-Fi 6e before other institutions,” Cahoe said.

Information Technology is proud to be out front of the new technological changes and is excited to continue to bring new innovation and solutions to campus.
