Office of Information Security Services

In May, the Office of Information Security Systems will be conducting a “tabletop exercise” with an external vendor to review security processes. These exercises mimic an information security attack, such as ransomware, etc. More information about the results of this exercise will be posted here afterward.

The OISS will also be moving our main web presences, www.bsu.edu, behind an external vendor network to enhance security and attack prevention. This will spread the presence of our main website across multiple servers across the country, enhancing the security and responsiveness of the website.

Information Technology Systems (ITS)

SMS and phone calls are no longer available as two-factor authentication methods in Duo. The only available authentication methods are the Duo app on a smart phone or a security token, available from the Tech Center Concierge Desk.

ITS is continuing to roll out our new student success solution, EAB Navigate. More information about this implementation is available on this web page.

A new one-stop shop for many student services, called “Cardinal Central,” is in the early stages of implementation. Built in Salesforce with the help of a vendor partner, Cardinal Central will reflect the physical relocation of these same services to a new on-campus location, currently under development. More information will be forthcoming as the project progresses.

ITS is also rolling out a new cell phone number management system in Self-Service Banner (SSB 9). A new page in SSB will allow students and employees to manage the text messages they get from Ball State systems. At launch, this will include the

Emergency Text Alerts and texts from EAB Navigate (generally for students). Users will be able to opt out (or opt back in) to text messages from these systems. Additional systems will be added as appropriate.

Unified Communications

Beginning in the summer of 2022, Unified Communications will be making upgrades to the WiFi equipment and networks in various campus buildings and student housing. More information will be available as the project progresses.

The Digital Corps

With the resignation of Bryon O’Connor, the Digital Corps has an open position for a Development Team Lead. This position will be posted in the next few weeks. When it’s posted, please see the Ball State job postings for more information on this position and to apply.

Five Digital Corps Master students will present to the Ball State Board of Trustees in March 2022. These students will share their experiences working at the Digital Corps and expand upon the support offered across campus for new, innovative creative projects.

As part of Ball State’s Lifeline Learning Initiative, Jenn Palilonis (EMDD) and Brandon Smith (Digital Corps) are spearheading a committee to evaluate the XRTerra platform and begin exploring how AR/VR technologies could play a role across campus. A multi-disciplinary of faculty from each College, as well as students from the Digital Corps and EMDD, will be exploring these new technologies through the spring semester.

The Digital Corps continues to offer support for the upcoming launch of Ball State Lifetime Learning initiative. These non-degree courses will feature interactive web design, video, animation, and more as the campus continues outreach to all learners. The launch of the Lifetime Learning initiative in the next few months will include 7 courses, with more courses in development for future launch.
