The Office of Information Security would like to make you aware of a new feature available on your Microsoft Outlook email application that allows for easy reporting of suspicious email when using it on Windows and Mac computers, along with Outlook Webmail and the Microsoft Outlook app for iOS and Android .
How do I report suspicious or junk email?
To report a suspicious or junk email when using the Outlook application on your Windows or Mac desktop/laptop, highlight the message in your email list and then select the icon that says Report Message in the top toolbar (usually on the upper right side of the screen). If you open the email, the Report Message option is also available in the toolbar. If you are using Outlook Webmail or the Microsoft Outlook app on your iOS or Android mobile device, open the email and select the three dots/ellipsis and select the Report Message icon.
Upon selecting Report Message, you will have the option to select the following options.
- Mark as junk
- Mark as phishing
- Mark as not junk
Emails that are marked as junk will go to your junk folder. If you mark an email as phishing, the Office of Information Security will be able to review the email for malicious activity and, if necessary, block the email going forward.
