When Jordyn Kovolyan arrived at Ball State University to pursue her master’s degree in student affairs administration, she wasn’t just continuing her education. She was stepping into an environment that would shape how she leads and builds community today.

Through hands-on leadership experiences, mentorship, and collaboration, Jordyn developed the skills that would take her from campus leadership to a career in professional sports.

Before Ball State, Jordyn built a strong foundation at Kent State University, where she served as an orientation leader, participated in mentorship programs, and held leadership roles within Greek life. Those experiences sparked her interest in developing people and creating meaningful connections, leading her to Ball State to continue that path.

At Ball State, Jordyn moved leadership from theory into practice.

Through the Excellence in Leadership program and her work in the student life office, Jordyn coordinated campus events, supported orientation programs, and collaborated across teams to create impactful student experiences. These moments helped her build the communication, teamwork, and leadership skills that would later define her career.

“The professors and cohort I was a part of really mattered,” Jordyn said. “I was amongst people helping me grow and develop.”

It was during this time that Jordyn began to see how those skills could translate beyond higher education. Ball State gave her the opportunity to lead, adapt, and build community in real-world settings, experiences that prepared her for what came next.

From Campus to the Court

After completing her time at Ball State, Jordyn returned to Kent State to pursue her MBA, where she then explored an opportunity in professional sports with the Cleveland Cavaliers and their inside sales program, The Foundation.

That opportunity quickly turned into a long career with the Cleveland Cavaliers organization.

Jordyn is standing in the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.

Though Jordyn’s path shifted industries from higher education, the skills she developed at Ball State remained central to her success. She moved from inside sales to servicing and managing season ticket holders, then into leadership roles overseeing The Foundation, business development, membership development & groups.

Today, she serves as senior director of membership development & groups, leading strategy for ticket sales, membership retention & engagement, and revenue optimization.

Jordyn’s career has not been without challenges. She stepped into account management during a major transition following a star players departure from the team and was at the center of membership engagement during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rather than setbacks, those moments became opportunities for growth.

“The challenges are probably the parts that help me grow most,” Jordyn said.

Through it all, she built resilience, adaptability, and the ability to lead through change, qualities that trace back to her early leadership experiences.

Leading with Purpose

Jordyn’s impact extends beyond her career.

She remains actively involved with Alpha Xi Delta as an area facilitator, supporting chapter advisors across multiple universities, and serves on the Kent State Alumni National Board of Directors. She is also deeply committed to the American Heart Association, where she was honored with the 2024 Leaders of Impact Award after raising the most funds in her campaign year.

The AHA cause is personal. A close childhood friend, who later became her sorority sister, lost her mother unexpectedly to a heart attack and she felt even more compelled to make a difference in this space.

“Things blossom out of tragic situations,” Jordyn said. “If the thing I can do is give back to help future research and help future people, that’s a win.”

From campus to career and beyond, Jordyn’s story reflects a simple truth: strong communities don’t happen by accident.

They are built through intentional leadership, meaningful connections, and a commitment to others.
