Since 1983, more than 1,500 Ball State students have received financial awards through the Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship. In total, this program has given out more than $2.8 million in financial support. The Legacy Scholarship program is a result of Ball State license plate sales in Indiana, allowing alumni and friends to represent their Cardinal Pride and support commendable students on their path to academic success. For the 2022-2023 school year, 98 deserving students received scholarships, totaling $250,000 in combined scholarship money. This award will allow students to pursue their academic and career goals while reducing the cost of their high-quality education. By giving back to Indiana students, the Legacy Scholarship can increase access to higher education for in-state students to prepare students for rewarding employment and to live engaged and meaningful lives, especially in Indiana.

Alumni Association Legacy Scholarships are awarded to selected in-state freshmen and currently-enrolled students who are children or grandchildren of alumni of Ball State University. The scholarships are one-time, nonrenewable awards.
