Alumni

  • Angela Ahrendts, a Ball State graduate from the class of 1981 and the former senior vice president for retail and online stores at Apple, and, at the time, the company’s only female senior executive, has been named to Grid.id’s list of the “6 Most Influential Women in Technology.”
  • The alumni association is selling Ball State University license plates. The best part $25 of your $40 special plate fee supports the Legacy Scholarship program!
  • Anna Park ’22 recently completed her graduate program. The Department of Communication Studies made a post to honor all the things she’s done for ball state while being here.
  • Sports Link alum and new “Voice of the Cardinals” Mick Tidrow joins Ball State Staff.

Students

  • COMM faculty Ashley Coker and Mary Moore led a group of students on prepping, planning, and practicing the teaching and facilitation of the Fundamentals of Public Communication course on campus. Want to hear more, click here.
  • Communication Studies student Kaya Hill was honored by the department for her commitment to learning, diversity, and inclusion. The department stated, “Kaya is a joy to the department and is constantly impressing us with her creativity, passion, and knowledge!”
  • Department of Media student, Hope Stauffer, earned the 2022 Philanthropy Award for promoting philanthropy education across campus and leading philanthropy initiatives beneficial to Ball State University. Our CCIM team is so proud of this accomplishment!

Faculty and Staff

  • SJSC faculty Kevin Moloney presented Transmedia Transparency: How expansive storytelling reveals struggle, purpose, personal connection, and rigor in long-form journalism practice. at the annual meeting of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in  Detroit on August 3, 2022.

    Kevin also launched three year-long immersive learning projects in EMDD, with partners of BSU Public Media to explore elevating local engagement this critical news source, The Remnant Trust to explore ways to make the 1,600 historic books dating back a millennium in their collection accessible to a wider public through digital tools and games, and Kid Architect to expand the storytelling in this series of children’s books by CAP alumnus Gary Vance and family.

    He also launched five and renewed a sixth semester-long immersive learning projects in EMDD, on subjects of improving concert security; supporting first-generation BSU students; raising awareness of “loot box” in-app game purchasing by children; increasing volunteerism among BSU students; and helping high school students discover possible majors for their college studies.

    • Dr. Ben Strack received the Extraordinary Service Award
    • Dr. Dan Waechter received the Dean’s Award
    • Dr. Paaige Turner received the University Outstanding Administrator Award
    • Dr. Maria Williams-Hawkins received the University Outstanding Faculty Service Award

What to Watch

Ball State Public Media gives us an inside look into the rich history of Yorktown. Just a few miles away beautiful traditions were made, cultures were shaped, and a town was created.

This documentary features personal interviews and stories from real people. So if you have some extra time on your hands give this documentary a skim, I’m sure you’ll learn something new!

Volunteer

  • SVS or the Student Voluntery Services is hosting their activity fair on Wednesday, August 31st from 9-12 with a virtual option from 1-4. Have fun plus learn how to get involved around Muncie and on campus.
  • Preview Day is on September 24, October 15, and November 5 and we are looking for students and faculty to represent their departments. Email Brea Cunningham if you’d like to represent your unit.
  • Muncie Habitat has open volunteer opportunities at their ReStore. Restore proceeds help to fund Muncie Habitat’s work throughout the community, while also offering affordable home supplies for low-income families and keeping things out of landfills, allowing students the opportunity to have a direct impact on our community without lifting a hammer.
    • Students can volunteer at ReStore on a walk-in basis Tuesdays-Saturdays 9a.m.-4p.m.

  • Currently, West View Elementary is looking for student, faculty, and staff volunteers to help in various ways:
  • If you are interested in volunteering with Muncie Community Schools, you must be vaccinated, masked, and approved by Safe Hiring Solutions.
  • Muncie Missions the faith-based agency that has brought hope and healing to the homeless and needy of Delaware County for over 80 years is currently seeking volunteers in various areas like:
    • Serving community lunch
    • Sorting clothing donations
    • Construction – painting, installing fencing, etc.
    • Janitorial work
    • Detailing vehicles
    • Landscaping/Mulching
