The Writing Center at Ball State offers free writing support for students, faculty, and staff. Visit our website (bsu.edu/writingcenter) to make an appointment. Tutors are available to support writers with papers, presentations, websites, podcast scripts, reports, literature reviews, lesson plans, theses, dissertations, scholarship applications, and more.

We offer three types of appointments to accommodate writers in various stages in the writing process. For example, some writers have a complete draft and are looking for feedback. Our Feedback Sessions are perfect for these writers. Some writers have not started and need help planning, so we offer Planning Sessions. Other writers are looking for accountability and need scheduled writing time on their calendar. We offer Accountability Sessions for these writers. Some are writing for a course assignment, but others are working on something extra-curricular or job-related. Whatever the writing task, we have a session for you at any stage of your writing process.

Current hours & location

All appointments are available either in person at one of our two locations or online via the WCOnline website. Our main location is in the Robert Bell building, second floor, room 295, and we offer all our daytime appointments (Mon.-Thurs. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. & Fri. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at this location. Our evening appointments (Sun. – Thurs. 6 to 10 p.m.) are offered at our satellite location in Bracken Library—first floor west. We can’t wait to see you in the Writing Center!

Spring Writing Center Events:

In addition to individual writing support for students, faculty, and staff, The Writing Center at Ball State offers workshops around campus. Here’s what’s happening this Spring:

  1. Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) Grant Writing Workshops

Ever wondered how to get started writing a grant proposal? The Writing Center and Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) is here to help answer that question. During the workshop, we’ll be discussing the fundamentals of writing persuasive grant proposals, including how to address your grant’s audience; write complete and specific content about your project; and avoid making common grant writing mistakes. You’ll be introduced to the resources available to grant writers at Ball State. Be sure to bring your laptops!

  2. Write On! Dedicated Online Writing Time for Graduate Students

Graduate students put some writing time on your calendar this spring and let the online group setting give you some accountability to see it through. Each bootcamp session will take place entirely over Zoom. Graduate students may register for one or all events. The online writing time or “bootcamps” involve structured writing time for attendees, as well as practical tips for goal setting and time management. They’re a great fit for students working on major projects and/or who are having trouble making time in their schedules for writing.
