The 2025 fall semester is in full swing and the Writing Center at Ball State has some exciting events planned for writers. In addition to our regular weekday and evening services, we will be making appearances around campus to provide even more services and support to all our Ball State writers. Star Party

Stop by the Writing Center table at Star Party 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in the Studebaker West parking lot. This event is hosted by The College of Sciences and Humanities along with the Social Sciences and the Humanities Living Learning Communities. Explore other student services, grab a piece of pizza, chat with some of our amazing tutors, snag one of our new stickers, and set up an appointment to get started on your writing this fall.

Write On! Graduate Writing Retreat

The Writing Center and the Graduate school are excited to partner for a second year to bring graduate writers the Write On! Graduate Writing Retreat 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025, in the Ball State Student Center. All graduate writers who attend will receive a free Write On! t-shirt, breakfast, lunch, and tote bag with Writing Center and Graduate School swag. Writers may choose between attending workshop sessions or participating in structured writing time. The event is free, and while we encourage you to make time to devote the entire day to your writing, attendees are welcome to come and go. Grant Writing Workshop

Have you ever wondered how to get started writing a grant proposal? The Writing Center and Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) is here to help answer that question during its Grant Writing Workshop 2-3 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025, in Bracken Library 215. During the workshop, we’ll be discussing the fundamentals of writing persuasive grant proposals, including how to address your grant’s audience; write complete and specific content about your project; and avoid making common grant writing mistakes. We will also introduce to the resources available to grant writers at Ball State. Be sure to bring your laptops!

Write On! Dedicated Online Writing Time for Graduate Students

Graduate students put some writing time on your calendar this fall and let the online group setting give you some accountability to see it through. These events will take place 2-4 p.m. on Friday September. 19; October. 31; and November. 21. Each bootcamp session will take place entirely over Zoom. Graduate students may register for one or all events. The online writing time or “bootcamps” involve structured writing time for attendees, as well as practical tips for goal setting and time management. These events are a great fit for students working on major projects and/or who are having trouble making time in their schedules for writing. Remember the Writing Center is also available to help support your writing this fall. All appointments are available either in person at one of our two locations or online via the WCOnline website. Our main location is in the Robert Bell building, second floor, room 295, and we offer all our daytime appointments (Mon.-Thurs. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. & Fri. 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) at this location.
