As part of the \u201cDisproportionality Disrupters\u201d research group, she has explored issues like how school handbooks contribute to disproportionate discipline against Black girls and how implicit bias shapes interactions between school resource officers and students of color.<\/p>\n<p>Her dissertation builds on this work, examining \u201cthe implicit bias individuals have toward those with disabilities.\u201d Emma\u2019s research spans multiple topics, including language preferences for individuals with disabilities, school truancy, and behavioral interventions\u2014all with the goal of fostering more inclusive and equitable educational environments.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2216\" src=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/03\/07182157\/NASP2024-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/03\/07182157\/NASP2024-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/03\/07182157\/NASP2024-1024x747.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/03\/07182157\/NASP2024-768x560.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/03\/07182157\/NASP2024-1536x1120.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-blogs.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/03\/07182157\/NASP2024-2048x1493.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8220;Research has not only expanded my knowledge and helped develop my theoretical orientation, but it has also connected me with a community that values collaboration and commitment to advancing the field,&#8221; she says.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ba0c2f\">Balancing Academics with Creativity<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Beyond her academic work, Emma finds joy in creative outlets that help her unwind. &#8220;I like to crochet and embroider in my free time, often creating different styles of blankets and scarves,&#8221; she shares.
