Hadi’s decision to pursue his EdD at Ball State University was driven by the institution\u2019s “strong reputation for academic excellence and its commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.” He was particularly drawn to the innovative curriculum of the Adult and Community Education doctoral program, as well as the opportunity to work closely with experienced faculty. Reflecting on his choice, he said, \u201cThe campus community has a welcoming atmosphere that I feel would make my time here both enriching and enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"A Transformative Academic Experience<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since arriving at Ball State, Hadi has found immense support from the faculty and staff. \u201cThe professors are very professional, supportive, and communicative. In addition, the administrative staff are very helpful and kind,\u201d he shared. This sense of community has been pivotal in making his experience rewarding and memorable.<\/p>\n

Hadi emphasized that his time at Ball State has been marked by experiential and transformative learning. He described how participating in campus events, engaging in research projects, and diving into class discussions has introduced him to new perspectives and reinforced his decision to be part of this academic community. \u201cExperiential, transformative, and self-directed learning are something new,\u201d he noted, adding that these opportunities have broadened his understanding of education and its potential impact.<\/p>\n

\"\"A Vision Born of Adversity<\/span><\/h3>\n

Hadi\u2019s passion for education is deeply personal. Coming from Afghanistan, a country devastated by more than five decades of war, he has witnessed firsthand the destruction of the educational system. His pursuit of a doctorate is fueled by a desire to rebuild what has been lost. \u201cI am pursuing the degree to work for the betterment of my country and countrymen and become an educational ambassador for my country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This mission is what drives him every day. For Hadi, education is more than a career\u2014it is a tool for societal transformation, a way to instill hope, and a means to create opportunities where none currently exist.<\/p>\n

Hadi\u2019s research focuses on adult education, specifically learning English as a second language in adulthood and educational leadership and management. His goal is to gain a deeper understanding of how to effectively teach adults and become a transformative leader in higher education. This research not only aligns with his academic interests but also serves his larger vision of helping to improve educational systems in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

After graduation, Hadi hopes to return to his home country if circumstances allow. His ultimate goal is to work toward reforming Afghanistan\u2019s educational system and creating opportunities for others to learn and grow.<\/p>\n

Balancing Work and Play<\/span><\/h3>\n

Despite his demanding academic schedule, Hadi finds joy in activities that allow him to unwind and recharge. He enjoys playing cricket and volleyball, hobbies that remind him of home and provide a sense of balance. His passion for research also serves as both a professional and personal outlet, allowing him to explore new ideas while staying grounded in his goals.<\/p>\n

Advice for Aspiring Graduate Students<\/span><\/h3>\n

Hadi has valuable insights for those considering graduate school. He emphasizes the importance of commitment, effective time management, and strong communication with professors and peers. His advice? \u201cCommitment, radical hope, effective time management, effective communication with professors, peers, and colleagues\u201d are all essential strategies for success.<\/p>\n
