A Safe Space for Students to Learn and Grow

For Hailey Kunz, teaching is about more than delivering lessons, it’s about being someone students can trust, lean on, and learn from. This Osgood, Indiana native is preparing to study Elementary Education at Ball State University, with the goal of creating a welcoming and encouraging environment for every child she teaches.

“I love being the person that students get to look to,” Hailey shares. “I want to be a safe space for kids as well as someone to look to when they need help. I want kids to have a place where they like to learn and want to learn.”

Hailey is a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, a prestigious, renewable award that provides up to $10,000 per year for four years to high-achieving Indiana students who commit to teaching in the state for at least five years after graduation.

A Leader in the Classroom and the Community

Hailey brings a strong foundation of leadership and involvement to her future career. In high school, she participated in National Honor Society, Student Council, FFA, 4-H, Jr. Leaders, and choir, building skills in communication, responsibility, and teamwork. Whether organizing student events or raising livestock, Hailey has always been someone her peers can rely on.

Why Ball State? It Felt Like Home.

Choosing Ball State was an easy decision for Hailey.

“I have always wanted to go to BSU because of their teaching program,” she says. “And I have lots of family that are alumni.”

With deep roots in the Ball State community and a clear vision for her future, she’s eager to join the ranks of Cardinals shaping tomorrow’s classrooms.

As she looks to the fall, Hailey is most excited about personal growth: “I am looking forward to many things, but I am most excited to see how college flourishes people.”

Journaling, Jeep Rides, and Farm Life

When she needs to recharge, Hailey enjoys journaling, going on jeep rides, and spending time outside. A fun fact? She lives on a cattle farm, an experience that’s given her a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for rural life.

Rooted in Support and Ready to Teach

With her calm presence, strong sense of purpose, and passion for helping students grow, Hailey is ready to create a classroom where all children feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Welcome to Ball State, Hailey!
