A Steady Presence in the Classroom and Beyond

For Madelynn Brown, becoming a teacher means becoming someone students can count on, just like the teacher who once inspired her. A lifelong Muncie resident and soon-to-be Ball State Cardinal, Madelynn will major in Elementary Education, with dreams of not only supporting her future students, but also expanding her worldview through study abroad opportunities.

“I want to become an educator because I want to be someone that anyone can lean on for support,” she shares. “Having teachers that you trust is so special to me. I had an amazing teacher in high school, and that makes me want to be an educator.”

Madelynn is a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, a competitive, renewable award that provides up to $10,000 per year for four years to students committed to teaching in Indiana for at least five years after graduation.

A Leader in and Out of the Pool

Throughout high school, Madelynn stayed actively involved in both athletics and leadership roles. She was a four-year member of the swim team and served as manager for both the cross-country team and long-distance track and field events during her freshman and sophomore years. She also served as a class officer for two years and was inducted into the National Honor Society.

With a strong foundation in teamwork, service, and dedication, Madelynn is bringing a well-rounded and compassionate perspective to her future role as an educator.

Staying Home for Something Great

Choosing to stay in her hometown wasn’t easy, but the opportunity to study at one of the best Teachers Colleges in the country made Ball State the right fit.

“It was a difficult decision just because Ball State is in my hometown,” she says. “But at the end of the day, their Teachers College is amazing and I would be okay with staying in my hometown to get an amazing education.”

She’s especially excited about the independence college brings. “Living in the dorms will be a new experience for me, and it makes me excited for the spontaneous parts of college,” she says.

A Lifeguard with a Love for Reading and Relaxation

Outside of school, Madelynn enjoys swimming, reading, and spending time with her friends. She also finds joy in her jobs and even in tidying up. “Cleaning is very relaxing to me,” she says. And one fun fact? “I can save lives because I’m a lifeguard.”

Ready to Dive In

With a calm and capable presence and a heart for helping others, Madelynn is ready to make a difference in Indiana classrooms one student at a time.

Welcome to Ball State, Madelynn!
