Committed to Connection—and to Making a Difference

Makayla Robles knows firsthand the powerful influence a teacher can have on a student’s life. That’s why she’s studying mathematics education at Ball State University—to become the kind of educator who cheers students on and helps them grow.

“I can’t wait to make a big impact on my future students, as teachers in my past have made on me,” she says. “I want to be one of their biggest supporters in watching them grow as individuals.”

Makayla, who transferred to Ball State from the University of Saint Francis to be closer to her family in Muncie, is also a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship. This competitive scholarship awards up to $10,000 each year for up to four years to high-achieving students who commit to teaching for five years in Indiana after graduation.

Leadership On and Off the Field

In high school, Makayla was no stranger to hard work and teamwork. She ran cross country and track, competed on the swim team, and served as Vice President of the Freshman Mentor Council. She was also a member of National Honor Society, Environmental Club, Chick-fil-A Leadership, and more. She even spent her first year of college as a collegiate athlete—an experience that taught her dedication and perseverance.

Now entering her senior year at Ball State—with a fifth year ahead—Makayla is looking forward to exploring career opportunities as she nears graduation. “I’m excited to explore the possible opportunities as college comes to a close,” she says.

Rooted in Relationships

When she’s not studying or preparing for her future classroom, Makayla enjoys spending time with the people who matter most to her. “I love hanging out with my friends, family, and my boyfriend!” she says with a smile.

Invested in Indiana’s Classrooms

Makayla’s journey as a future educator is grounded in care, community, and the desire to give back. As a Next Generation Hoosier Educator, she’s preparing to make a lasting impact in Indiana schools—and we’re proud to support her every step of the way.

Congratulations, Makayla—we’re so glad you’re here!
