From the classroom to the community, Taylor Kelley is making her mark at Ball State University. A junior from New Palestine, Indiana, Taylor is pursuing a dual major in Elementary Education and Special Education: Exceptional Needs (K–6)—driven by a deep passion for teaching and helping others.
Taylor’s hard work and leadership haven’t gone unnoticed. As a Top 100 Student Award recipient, she stands among the most exceptional undergraduates at Ball State, recognized for her academic excellence, service, and commitment to living out the values of Beneficence.
Continuing a Family Legacy
For Taylor, attending Ball State felt like a natural fit.
“I chose Ball State because of its top teachers college and the strong reputation it has for preparing educators,” she said. “Additionally, my mother was an alumni, which made it even more special and meaningful for me to continue that legacy.”
That family connection, paired with Ball State’s nationally recognized Teachers College, confirmed her decision to pursue her dream of becoming an educator.
Learning by Doing
One of Taylor’s favorite parts of her college experience has been getting into the classroom early and often.
“Being able to work directly with students and apply what I’ve learned has been incredibly rewarding and has reaffirmed my passion for teaching.”
Her inspiration to teach came from close to home.
“My mother, who is a teacher, inspired my interest in education and motivated me to pursue a career in this field. Seeing her dedication to her students and the impact she made in their lives showed me the power of teaching.”
Campus Involvement and Connection
Taylor has taken full advantage of opportunities outside the classroom, getting involved in organizations that reflect her values and support her growth as an educator.
She’s an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa Collegiate Club, where she connects with fellow education majors and participates in service-based initiatives. She’s also involved in Best Buddies, a group that promotes inclusion and friendship for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To unwind and stay active, Taylor joined the Pickleball Club, and she’s also a member of two prestigious honor societies: Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, and Alpha Lambda Delta, which recognizes academic excellence in first-year students.
“I’ve embraced a well-rounded college experience by getting involved in several organizations,” she said. “Each one has helped me grow in different ways.”
Looking Ahead
After graduating in May 2026, Taylor plans to return to her hometown and begin her teaching career—ideally in either an elementary or resource classroom. Her goal is to create an inclusive, engaging learning environment for every student.
A Life Beyond the Books
Outside of academics and extracurriculars, Taylor makes time for activities that bring her joy.
“I find great joy in playing pickleball and spending time at the beach,” she shared.
And for anyone considering getting more involved in campus life, she has one enthusiastic recommendation:
“I would like to extend an invitation to future educators to join Alpha Delta Kappa Collegiate Club!!!!”
As a final fun fact: “I am a twin!”
Taylor Kelley represents the best of Ball State—driven, compassionate, and ready to make a difference. With her heart for teaching and her commitment to service, she’s already shaping the future, one step—and one student—at a time.
