{"id":137,"date":"2018-10-09T12:48:17","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T16:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bsu.edu\/research\/?p=137"},"modified":"2019-11-19T13:58:15","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T18:58:15","slug":"investigating-nucleic-acid-nanoparticles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bsu.edu\/research\/2018\/10\/09\/investigating-nucleic-acid-nanoparticles\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigating Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Imagine the height of a dime sliced 1 million <\/strong>times\u2014that\u2019s a nanometer. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsu.edu\/academics\/collegesanddepartments\/chemistry\/about\/faculty-staff\/faculty\/khisamutdinovemil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Emil Khisamutdinov<\/a> is investigating the nucleic acid nano-world as an assistant professor in the Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsu.edu\/academics\/collegesanddepartments\/chemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chemistry<\/a> at Ball State. \u201cIn our lab, we create different sizes and shapes of nanoparticles made of nucleic acid\u00a0 biopolymer.\u201d Known to store genetic information, DNA is viewed as a polymer material used to create various types of particles in Khisamutdinov\u2019s lab.<\/p>\n<p>Khisamutdinov and his collaborators from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uncc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of North Carolina at Charlotte<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clemson University<\/a> received a $1.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. This field is blossoming now.
