Recently, University Libraries introduced a feature in OneSearch to assist with locating a book or other physical item in the University Libraries collections.
Library material is cataloged by location, collection and call number. A call number can be confusing to interpret if you haven’t used a library very much. Range Finder assists your discovery of the specific item by directing you to the library, floor and range where the item is shelved. The Range Finder information is in the search result below other location information after the “Shelved at” label.
Range Finder will also give students and faculty guidance on the location of other material in the same subject area as the item they are viewing. In the example, you can gather that many other cookbooks are on Fourth Floor West, in ranges 31 and 32, based on the location information.
In addition to the Range Finder feature, OneSearch includes a text-a-call number feature that allows searchers to text or email basic information about a title to themselves to assist with finding the piece. Thank you for using resources from the University Libraries.
