With the Fall semester soon coming to a close, Information Technology is now preparing for contact tracing needs for the upcoming Spring semester. Our current goal is to maintain 40 available contact tracers at all times. There are currently 22 active call tracers with the appropriate permissions, so contact tracer permissions will be reinstated for several former contact tracers, based on upcoming needs and subject to change based on COVID-19 positive cases and secondary contacts. In addition, beginning in early November, we will schedule new meetings and training sessions with former and new contact tracers.

Earlier in the Fall semester, Information Technology partnered with several departments on campus to set up and manage the COVID-19 contact tracing needs for the university, as well as to create our COVID-19 reporting dashboard.

We assisted with:

  • interviewing contact tracer candidates and making new hire recommendations
  • coordinating contact tracer training
  • organizing contact tracing schedules
  • managing requests for and granting system permissions and phone extensions for contact tracers
  • providing needed equipment for contact tracers
  • supporting and addressing questions from contact tracers

These efforts helped significantly reduce the impact of COVID-19 on campus and allowed the university to maintain on-campus classes as planned, without resorting to fully online instruction. Several Information Technology employees volunteered for contact tracing and were instrumental in this effort.

If you have any questions about contact tracing or would like to become involved in our contact tracing efforts, please contact Amy Brandon or Sharee Conatser.
