Vision Corner, a hub for fostering Union City’s progressive mindset, provides a space for collaboration in order to create a better future for all residents. At Vision Corner, Union City’s public-school students have access to job-related learning opportunities, while adults and local businesses benefit from resources focused on vocational skills, workplace success, and entrepreneurship.

Our staff recently traveled to Union City to visit the space and meet with Executive Director Steve James and Union City Mayor Chad Spence. During the discussion, both leaders shared their insights on the city’s vision, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in driving local initiatives. They elaborated on various projects aimed at revitalizing the area, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. The city is providing opportunities for students to engage in their community in hopes that those who leave to continue their education will return after graduation.

We were also given a full tour of the facility, which features a complete studio for KISS Communications, a student-run vocational broadcasting organization, including a radio booth, TV set, and podcast booths. We also went behind the scenes of Apache Designs, a student operated business that designs, manufactures and sells promotional items right out of Vision Corner. Additionally, the facility boasts an Esports center and several hands-on technology rooms tailored for students pursuing careers in the health field.

As the visit concluded, it was clear that the relationship between Ball State University and Union City is poised for growth. Mayor Spence stated, “What a tremendous opportunity to host the Industry Engagement team from Ball State!  BSU has already embedded itself in Vision Corner’s DNA, from the exterior design by its architecture students to the inspiration for the media studio and Esports program.  Such collaboration is paramount for small communities to not just survive, but flourish, and we look forward to collaborative opportunities with Ball State to foster growth and development for students and citizens alike in Indiana.” The insights gained from this trip not only highlighted the potential of Vision Corner but also set the stage for future initiatives that could greatly benefit the community and grow to the entire state.
