These professional development opportunities are offered by the Office of Inclusive Excellence. They are open to all faculty, staff, and graduate students at Ball State University.

Creating Inclusive Classrooms

November 7, 2024 1:00 pm-2:30 pm

Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room

This course will help participants create an inclusive classroom environment to promote student learning and success. This session focuses on diversifying both in-person and virtual classrooms, introducing diverse course material, and offering space for honoring and sharing students’ cultural capital as an asset-based pedagogical approach to teaching. Additionally, this session aims to center the student, advance equity, and honor the intrinsic worth of all students for a purposeful educational experience. This presentation is hosted by the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Division of Online and Strategic Learning.

LGBTQ+ 101

"Flyer for Ball State University's 'Office of Inclusive Excellence Professional Development Series' titled 'LGBTQ+ 101.' The session encourages collaboration with peers, colleagues, and friends to gain a greater understanding of the LGBTQ community. Scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 20th, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The flyer includes colorful pride flags held by illustrated hands and features the Ball State University logo in the top left corner."This course is an introduction to understanding the many unique identities within the LGBTQ+ community. Participants will develop a greater understanding of the lived experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, discuss affirming and non-affirming language and terminology, and learn strategies to support the LGBTQ+ community. Through, an equity-minded approach to individual and community interactions related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and the use of pronouns will be discussed. Additionally, there will be opportunities to work in collaboration with peers, colleagues, and friends to enhance the learning experience.

Shafer Leadership Academy

Cost: Free for SLA Members. $50 non-member. $30 nonprofits.

Individuals who are either unemployed or connected with an employer who is unable to pay can request scholarships for any of their programs.

Belonging Beyond Boundaries: 5 Leadership Strategies for Building Inclusive Remote & Hybrid Teams

This session will explore strategies to help leaders build a culture where every team member feels valued and engaged, regardless of location. Through practical examples and interactive exercises, this session will equip leaders with the tools to create an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team in any work environment.

Workplace Serenity: Strategies for Stress Reduction

This session will develop participants’ awareness of personal stress triggers and sources within the workplace. Learn practical stress management techniques, including breathing exercises and physical movement, to proactively manage stress and maintain mental clarity.
