Stories can foster readers’ empathy for people from other cultural and religious communities. The CREDOS Book Club Reading Guides aims to support community book clubs in reading and discussing religiously diverse fiction by contemporary American authors. Each guide provides background on the novel, brief socio-historical context for the novel’s featured religious tradition(s), and discussion questions aimed at building readers’ appreciation for the narrative.
This guide was created as part of a Spring 2022 Ball State University Honors College colloquium on literary explorations of religion and American identity. The course was taught by Kathryn Ludwig, Ball Brothers Foundation Honors College Faculty Fellow (2022-2024) and Assistant Teaching Professor of English. For
more information, please contact Dr. Ludwig at kludwig@bsu.edu.
