The start to another school year means that new opportunities to get involved on campus are popping up everywhere. Ball State has such a wide variety of teams, clubs, and organizations that it seems like there’s something for everyone, and we might have the perfect opportunity for you. The Honors College is seeking applications for this year’s assistant editor of News and Notes.

What is News and Notes?

News and Notes is a biannual, award winning print publication dedicated to highlighting students and faculty whose creativity and drive make being in the Honors College worthwhile. Check out their website to read up on their mission statement, staff profiles, and recent articles. The publication covers a variety of topics, including trends, events, and opinion pieces related to Honors life. Whether you’re looking to gain valuable experience, build lasting relationships, or deepen your involvement with the Honors College, News and Notes has something for you.

So, what does it take?

As an assistant editor, your responsibilities would include:

  • Recruiting staff writers and photographers
  • Designing each issue
  • Writing copy
  • Working with Printing Services to print the proofs
  • Working with the advisor to produce quality and timely issues

Additionally, knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Acrobat is preferred but not required.

The student selected as assistant editor will be financially supported as an Honors Undergraduate Fellow, totaling $1,080 over the course of the year. The typical workload for this position averages five hours per week for both the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters. Please note that the student must be eligible to work on campus, so Resident Assistants cannot be appointed for this position.

Does this sound like the position for you? Reach out to Dr. Alex Kaufman (alkaufamn@bsu.edu) and briefly describe why you’d like to be a part of News and Notes, as well as and past experience or skills that relate to the position of assistant editor.

Don’t wait to get involved! The deadline for this opportunity is midnight, Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
