Learn more about her and her role in the Q&A below.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but I grew up in northern Nigeria in a town called Yola.
Q: What degree are you currently pursuing and why?
A: Right now, I am pursuing my doctoral degree in higher education. This degree is important to me because having a doctoral degree will expand my opportunities when it comes to having an impact on communities around me. Having a terminal degree helps because people listen when you speak. Combining research and applied work at the doctoral level helps reinforce the ideas I want to share because I am basing my communication on lived experiences and actual happenings.
Q: Where and what did you study for undergrad?
A: I studied petroleum chemistry with a concentration in petroleum engineering. I acquired this degree at the American University of Nigeria. I loved my time there, and I think it helped with my transition to the U.S. The way that my work and school life was set up mirrors how college works in the U.S. Now, Muncie is my home away from home.
Q: What are you looking forward to in this GA position?
A: I am looking forward to building community in this position. I want to create a space where students can really feel seen and heard as well as experience that myself.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I like to crochet, cook, and design clothes. My favorite dish to cook is a Nigerian dish called Jollof Rice!
Q: How can students get in touch with you? A: Students can definitely get to me through my email! It is anuoluwapo.bankole@bsu.edu
