Get to know our board members! Each month, the Ball State University Foundation will be featuring three of its esteemed board members for you to get to know a little bit better. Below are some fun facts as well as a peek into what each of these board members do in their professional careers.  

John Worthen (1984-2012)  

John Worthen served as the 11th President of Ball State University from 1984-2000. His two favorite memories from his time at Ball State include leading the Wings of the Future capital campaign from 1987 to 1992 which raised $44 million. His other favorite memory includes following the BSU basketball team when they played in the Sweet Sixteen in 1990. He and other board members were able to travel out to watch the team in Salt Lake City, Utah and Oakland, California.   

Presently, John remains active in the Muncie community. One of his favorite activities to do is to attend a weekly group that spends two hours each Thursday discussing national and international issues. They share and discuss recent news articles about topics ranging from the political landscape to the economy and world wide issues.   

If John could live anywhere in the world, he would pick Steamboat Springs, CO. He and his late wife, Sandra, split time between Muncie and their home that they built up in Springboat Springs for many years. They would go skiing and snowshoeing nearly everyday. However, they were always back during the fall just in time for BSU football. John’s perfect day would be either snowshoeing in Colorado with his wife or traveling internationally. Presently they have visited many incredible places including Africa, Antarctica, New Zealand, China, Japan, South Korea, and have traveled all over Europe.   

Marsha Casey (2011-Present)  

Marsha Casey has been a member of the Ball State Foundation Board of Directors since 2011. She has loved serving Ball State because she feels as though she is giving back to the school that gave her so much. She also expressed loving the opportunity to work alongside such fantastic board members and staff that are making a difference for BSU students and Indiana as a whole.   

Presently, Marsha is the Senior Vice President of Health Professions at Marian University. In this role she has responsibility for strategic oversight of College of Medicine, Nursing, Exercise Science, and all health professions programs. She has worked all of her career in health systems including St. Vincent, Vanderbilt University, and Texas Heart Institute-St. Lukes to name a few.   

Marsha has called many places home over the years and has loved each one. Places she has called home include Nashville, TN, Texas, Michigan, and New York. Presently, she lives back here in the great state of Indiana, which she loves getting to call home. For her, a perfect day includes starting her day in prayer and staying mindfully present in each moment as it comes. She also takes some time to contemplate her mission statement which includes praying for divine providence to make a difference in all those who she comes in contact with on a daily basis.  

Tim Andrews (2022-Present) 

Tim Andrews presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ball State University Foundation. His favorite part about volunteering at Ball State is having the opportunity to come back to campus and connect with students, faculty, and staff. “Campus is such an energetic place and it is wonderful to see how students are benefiting from the work being done at BSU.”     

Tim is the President and CEO of the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI), the largest technology, marketing and information provider in the promotional products industry. ASI has over 400 employees and 25,000 customers in more than 30 countries.   

When asked about his dream place to live, Tim said that he would love to live in Paris where he could be close to incredible pastries and majestic sites while also being only a short distance away from the other amazing places in Europe. He travels extensively and has explored all seven continents. Tim’s perfect day includes waking up and taking an hour-long walk around his small town outside of Philadelphia, with a coffee in hand. He would then enjoy a wonderful day at work followed by a delicious meal and a performance at Princeton’s McCarter Theater, where he served as a trustee and secretary for a decade. One of his favorite Broadway shows was ‘night, Mother by Marsha Norman, which won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Tim also actively supports several community programs in his rural Indiana hometown of Hope.
